Cynthy Johnson

johnson cynthyCynthy Johnson was classically trained beginning at age 6 as a liturgical organist. By the time she was 15 years old she was a substitute organist in her hometown church and a guest organist at other parishes. Cynthy pursued training in liturgical organ, piano, and flute through her early college years. She continued to teach liturgical organ and substitute as her busy career in Information Systems allowed. After she reached the pinnacle of her career, she pursued her longing and passion to return to music full time. It was at the suggestion of her husband, and his persuasive leading, that Cynthy was introduced to the pedal harp. Just one touch of the strings, and she was enchanted!

Cynthy studied pedal harp at The Academy of Music where she was trained classically. She was later coached in lever harp studies by several notable lever harpers. She is a graduate of the International Harp Therapy Program and a Certified Therapeutic Harp Practitioner. She has been a contributing editor for instructional harp method books, a marketing book, as well as her articles published in the Folk Harp Journal regarding hand exercises for the harpist.

As a harp teacher and former workshop presenter at the Somerset Folk Harp Festival, Cynthy delights in helping others discover the harp, play with their music and gain confidence. Her original workshop, Improvising Between the Melodies, offers a variety of techniques to build improvisational patterns between melodies that colors and shape shift music to new heights.
